Starting July 1, 2010 all new notaries and certain* renewing notaries will be required to satisfactorily complete a certified training class prior to applying for a commission.  Information about certified classes offered by the Secretary of State’s office as well as other organizations will be posted below.   Any classes not listed on this site have not been certified and do not fulfill the statutory requirement for training.

While training is not required for currently commissioned Montana notaries in good standing or for new applicants prior to July 1, we have found that those who have attended a class or taken online training have found the information to be very valuable and worthwhile and we encourage you to take advantage of such courses if possible. 

The Montana Secretary of State’s Office offers live notary seminars throughout the state.   These seminars have been approved for 3.5 CLE credits for legal professionals by the State Bar of Montana.  There is no fee associated with these seminars, but class size is limited.  Please read and follow these guidelines:

• Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
• All attendees must register online.  An admission ticket can be printed out and must be presented for admission to the class.
